Try updating your Internet explorer to the latest version. I have had this a few times and that has been my first port of call.

Here is a good page http://www.updatexp.com/cryptographic-service.html

    Also go to regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
See if it is even listed in there.

Cryptserv is the service that registers WHQL signed drivers, authorized windows updates, typical installshield installs, and uninstallation services.

It needs to be on or you're screwed.

If it ain't in the list of services, prepare for a windows repair install. I don't even know how something like that can be deleted.

Anyone else notice that maggie rarely posts, but when she does she's always right on the beam?

I was hoping it would. There wasn't one hint about how to add it. I know you can add WZC into the registry by inputing Add but wasn't sure about Crypto

I've had a similar problem recently. Just after I'd gone through the services list with a fine tooth comb, Windows Update started to act a little eratic. All is well now I've re-enabled the afore mentioned service. Good tip.

    Cheers
