Hey

I'm starting fresh on my Asus laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit. What are a few must have programs that play nice with Vista - eg. security, burning, video? Thanks!

:D

He might like playing games and only Vista gives you DX10. That depends if his graphics card is DX10 capable. If it isn't, the main benefit of Vista over XP is gone. Back to to the question

    ESET NOD32 Antivirus
7-Zip or WinRAR (I just started using 7-Zip, I like it)
    CCleaner (for cleaning temp files)
PowerISO (for dealing with disk image type files)
    Nero Ultra (latest)
    Office 2007
Foxit reader (better than adobe acrobat reader, doesn't use stupid adobe background process)
Skype (better at video chat and file transfers than live messenger)
    DVD Decrypter
    DVD Shrink
RipIt4Me (use in conjunction with the previous two apps for backing up your DVD collection)
    Windows Live Messenger
