Processor Comparison

I'm feeling a desire to upgrade my cpu and mobo. Just looking for a suggestion.

I'm currently running with this:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

and thinking about going to this:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor
or this
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor

I'm running Vista 64-bit and OSX 10.5.5 (hacintosh style) dual-booted

I generally just surf, email, etc... occasional adobe suite use. Will I see improvement? Is it worth it?

Thanks!

ABit Ab9 Pro... it's poopface to me now b/c Abit went under AND removed their website so drivers went bye bye

    What about Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor?
I've been out-of-the-loop since intel took charge so I'm investigating these things as well.

He'd have to revamp his memory and motherboard to do that. Not terribly cost-conscious given that he can get a cheap chip and a good Core2 for about 1/2 the price.

Yeah... i plan to keep my mems b/c i'm rocking some 6GB OCZ DDR2 800. My mobo is, however under question b/c I don't know if the AB9 Pro can handle the Yorkfield. Anybody know how I can find out?

Check the BIOS update history or the CPU support table on their website. It'll say something about Q8000, Q9000 or Yorkfield.

    you're awesome. good idea. thanks!

and if it doesn't specifically mention Q8000 or Q9000, it probably won't work?

great news for me!!1! AB9 Proc CPU Support List

AND apparently their site is up again so I won't have to search for drivers if I ever reinstall. This really is exciting for me.

    thanks again
