WinMo 6.5 is supposed to be some pretty slick stuff, but I feel that they're releasing it as more of a stopgap for the delays in WinMo7, which is now potentially not going to hit market 'till 2Q'10.
The lack of QWERTY on a smartphone is not really a big deal. I've been running an HTC Touch/Vogue for more than a year now, and I really don't miss the physical keyboard much, if at all. In 99% of my usage, it's pretty rare that I need to do anything that isn't easily accomplished by my on-screen keyboard (I use TouchPal, specifically). I can text with it just as quickly as I could on my Verizon 9800 with the full keyboard.
I'm anxiously awaiting the Palm Pre and the next crop of HTC gear for '09 (Sprint's getting an Android phone out of the deal, as well), which will also include a US version of the TouchHD, which brings 800x480 resolution to the table.
Some people, like myself, expressly refuse to use a phone that doesn't have QWERTY. I have no desire to sit there and paw at the screen. I want keys, and it's why I sprung for the Bold over the iPhone.
I'm eagerly awaiting the Pre because it seems like a phone that intelligently combines QWERTY and touch, but I am completely miffed over the lack of miniSD.
Lastly, the last word regarding the Touch HD is that it is not coming to the US despite its FCC validation. It's a mobile that's going to stay in the UK for the foreseeable future. I don't like it, but them's the facts.

This I'm aware of, but there are other HTC Devices aimed at the US market that are going to have a TouchHD-resolution screen. I believe the next step from the Touch Pro (Which is my next phone unless the Pre steals my heart once I get my hands on one), is slated to be 800x480, as well as possibly the Diamond update.
