Computer Freezes Up / hangs

edited January 2009 in Science & Tech
My computer will randomly freeze up several times during the day Win Xp dell 4600 2 GB RAM 2.66 ghz. Sometimes it will happen if I have a bunch of programs open, sometimes I might just have notepad open and type too quickly or open up a folder and right click, sometimes it will happen if I have one game open, etc.

Conrol ALT Delete will work once every 20 times. Usually I have to power up again.

Any ideas on what I can do to correct this aggravating situation?

Appreciate any input

You might want to try and free up some hard drive space. It could be freezing up due to how many applications you have running in the background and at start up taking up the 2 gb of RAM that you have.

I say that you should do a disk clean-up and defragment the hard drive and see if that helps any.

Has the spyware/virus team finished cleaning your system and given it a clean bill of health? :)

    Thrax,

Sorry for not replying sooner. I did not see any response to my post with the data required for someone to look at.

Doing the malaware program in safe mode got me to the point of being able to use my pc again. I then immediately performed superantispyware and it found over 150 issues. The only issue I have now is the random computer freezing up.

My box is working, but I was hoping for a clean bill of health.

There are many, many more programs that need to be run before your computer has a clean bill of health. Spyware is more insidious than ever, and one or two programs aren't enough to combat the problem any more. Go ahead and bump your thread there to make sure they see it, because I'm not convinced your PC is clean yet. :)

I'm no expert at Spyware and I cant advise on how to treat, but there as Thrax says, Spyware is very complicated these days and there are not enough people about to help victims.

I have cast my eye over your log and I would recomend that you wait for someone to take a look as your problems are probably malware related.

There are not enough helpers and too many infections. So it does sometimes take a while to get an answer. I would not bump your old thread as helpers look for posts with no replies which signify people not yet being helped. I would Start a new thread and include a link to your old one.
