Orinoco Wireless + Linksys 54G
Shorty
Manchester, UK Icrontian
I've searched, and im still being a dumbass and yes, I did read the manual. Im showing my inate weakness with Wireless routing.. so bare with me ok
I got the quite wonderful Linksys/Cisco 54G wireless router that Thrax recommends (it is a beauty). Now to connect my laptop to it.
ooook.. well..
Ive set a unique SSID, turn off broadcast, set up mac filtering... now just to do the WEP bit. Which is where I become unstuck...
My orinoco (built in 11B)..
Shared Im assuming is correct...
encryption = WEP...
What do I put in the wep key box?
Help

Im gonna go hunt out a PCMCIA card that supports WPA
From personal experience I can confirm that the Cisco Aironet 350 card works faultlessly with the WR54G.
We use these cards in our work lappies and I use the WR54G at home. It supports 128bit encription, dont know about WPA, cos I dont know what it is.
Cisco Aironet 350
It replaces WEP as an encryption method for wireless and is considerably more secure

350 doesn't mention it - http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/pcat/ao350ca.htm
I have a linksys wrt54g with the latest firmware. It supports both TKIP and AES encryption. The Intel PRO/2100 adapter built into the wife's laptop only supports TKIP. I set the AP to AES, knowing that AES is the stronger of the two methods, and boom ... I'm locked out of the AP. So, make sure you have the right method selected on both devices before you start
