Very large system files (3GB) with HSA attributes, Possible Virus?

Hello folks, this is my first post, firstly thanks so much for your assistance with what follows.

I'm hoping that you might be able to help me with a problem I'm experiencing.

I was working away quite happily on my PC (Win XP SP3) two nights ago and it suddenly shut down. When it rebooted my C Drive was out of space. I used some software to check out the files on the C Drive and identified four hidden system files name 0, E, S, and Y in the Windows folder each weighing in at 3GB each. They cannot be deleted as Windows tells me they are in use. I have tried MoveOnBoot without success as it appears, according to the last change date, that they are modified on boot.

I have run a scan with AVG, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.33 and SUPERAntiSpyware but the problem remains.

The only information on the files I can get is that they have a HSA Attribute.

Is this a virus? I have tried booting Safe Mode to remove the files without success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks.
