Windows XP Recycle Bin blank??

My recycle bin is showing up empty.. kind of... the icon shows that there's trash in it, but I open it and nothing's in it. When I delete stuff it never shows up in the bin. I've checked the recycle bin settings and everything's right. It is not set to do a perma-delete.

Any ideas?

    Umm... it's working now. I emptied it and deleted a file... the file shows in the bin now. Still curious about what might have happened and perhaps I will continue to have issues with it.
