What is it should i take it off, is it some protective covering?
There is this blue gelly thing on my core of my 3000 barton, what should i do, should i just leave there and apply thermal grease?

Thanks.

I have no idea what it is; so pull it off. I just know it shouldn't be there.

Ditto. Not sure what type of paste is blue.

LOL!! Sounds like a old fifties horror movie title! "The Blob that ate my Barton" :)

    Could it be a thermalpad?

It does hold the core down. Leave it alone :D

Don't touch it! It's on every processor!

Does he then mean a hard-epoxy like substance?

If he's referring to that glue-like stuff around the core, it's most certainly not a gel...

Thats what I was thinking as well.

If it is like a caulking bead around the processor core but not on the core itself then leave it alone. The face of the processor core should be clean and you'll be able to see identifying marks on the processor core.

This is different from a thermal pad (the pink "goo") that is usually found on the bottom of heatsinks.

Slight difference between "blue gel stuff" and "industrial strength core/die/ceramic due" lol.
