CCTV Cameras and recording devices

I am looking for some advice on this particular subject. I am looking to get a few cameras and attach them to my pc and monitor the entry ways to my house. The neighborhood has a few young punks deciding to steal things they want instead of working for it. I am looking for about 4 cameras. I need these to be attached to the computer and recording during the day. I was just curious about the the camera resolution and connections to the PC. I am sure there is a card and possibly a program I need to make this whole deal work. If someone out there has experience with these items could you enlighten me?
