I'm trying to install the drivers for using XBox accessories on my PC. When I try to run the setup file I get this error.

I can assure you I'm using a fully up-to-date version of XP Pro.

any ideas?

If you are running windows XP 64bit it requires a different driver then the regular XP one.

Try downloading the driver again, reboot and try reinstalling it.

If you right click on 'Computer' and go into properties. Is it reporting the correct windows version?

I didn't download the driver at all. I'm trying to install from the CD that came with the device (it had a very clear warning to install the driver before plugging in the device). I've rebooted several times. Actually, if it helps: Rebooting changed the error.

The first time I tried to run it, it gave me an error that said I didn't have enough hard-drive space to install the drivers (I have 20GB free on the system partition). Since my system had been on for three weeks straight, and needed to restart because of some updates anyway, I tried rebooting. Then I got the error above about not having the right version of Windows. I've rebooted twice since, to no avail.

I'll try downloading the driver instead, and see if that helps.

Well, downloading the install files worked. I guess there was something wrong with this CD. Thanks Kryyst.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best.
