I'm building a computer for me and my roommate and was hoping I could get some suggestions. The budget is 600.

MOTHERBOARD:

CPU:

Intel Q8200 @ 2.33 Ghz + 4 MB L2 = $170

RAM:

G.Skill 4 GB DDR2 800 = $45

OCZ Reaper 4 GB DDR2 800 = $54 ($34 /w rebate)

GPU:

XFX 9800GT 512 MB = $130 ($110 /w rebate)

PSU:

Corsair 650W @ 52A = $100 ($75)

PC Power & Cooling 610W @ 49A = $100 ($70)

Corsair 550W @ 41A = $90 ($70)

This is our usual $600 budget build recommendation. The motherboard you've picked out wouldn't be my choice. Also, you don't have drives included in your build.

First off, I don't know what you want this new comp to be used for so I assumed gaminjg and the usual kind of stuff. So here goes. The board you picked is sorry to say not where it is at at all. As far as the CPU, a quad is nice but you can get better mileage out of a dual core and I showed the quad you picked and a dual core for the same money that will blow that quad out of the water in games. I also don't use the rebates to figure when working within a specified budget. I came out over budget by $54.92 not including shipping.

You could cut back to keep in the budget but if you spend the extra you will have a far better system. This is also assuming you have all your peripherals including keyboard, mouse and monitor as well as an Operating System.

I think I used that Gigabyte motherboard for my uncle's upgrade recently. He really doesn't do anything that intensive so it was a perfect fit. It was OK. Had a good bit of overclocking headroom but it was limited in the bios options. It is in no terms an enthusiast board. You can do a lot better with a little more. But for the price I did feel it was a great deal.

Also there are 4870's in the 150 zone after rebates. I think that is a heck of a lot more card for only 30 or 40 more.

I just looked at the shipping and rebates on what I selected. And there are $55 total rebates and shipping is less than $20 to most of the U.S.

If there is money available you can even better the 4870 with a 9800GTX+ for the same 30 to 40 extra after rebates!
