cmd instructions

i have win vista on my Laptop and i am trying to release and renew my IP address i dont want to use repair coz it is take a time .
i opened my cmd windows and i used
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

these instructions it didnt work in win vista anyone have idea which instruction i should use in vista to renew my ip address ?

    Those are the right commands, but what do you mean it didn't work?

    Releasing the IP and then renewing it doesn't mean your going to get a different IP back. Also I think in Vista you need to do that with elevated privileges so you need to run cmd as admin.

    Windows Button, in the search box type "cmd" and when CMD appears in the results, RIGHT click on it and "run as administrator". Then you can do the ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew
