Activating Windows XP

Okay, so my laptop has been on the fritz for a very long time. About a month ago I asked if I could borrow my friends XP disc to install XP on my laptop. Everything worked fine and windows asked me to activate it. Well, with a quick search on youtube, I found a method of entering registry data in the OOBETimer to make it say it was activated. However, now it tells me I have two days to activate windows.

I downloaded a guided help support thing from Microsoft and it went back to normal rather than saying "This product is already activated", so now I can still put in a keycode and all. I tried calling the automated system toll free and when I gave it the code, it said sorry we can not provide a key for that number blah blah. Anyway, I have two days to activate this version of windows and I have no idea what to do! Apparently the youtube video doesn't work anymore and the phone didn't help either. I'm desperate, thanks for your help.

Ask for an operator when you call the activation number. The CD you used is not the same type of Windows XP disc your serial number is for.

They have to run a check on the key and generate a new activation code for you.

For the record the youtube video in question doesn't activate windows. It resets the activation on windows so you can change your windows key and re-activate it.

I believe the issue is resolved. Well, at least, I hope it is. Thanks for the assistance though.
