I need some more help? I have Windows XP Home, here is my problem, I click on start, them click on My Computer this opens all the drives, I then Right click on C Drive, scroll down click on Properties, from here the computer freezes except for the mouse, I then need to go to CTRL, ALT, DELETE and do a restart from there, The computer only freezes when in the properties of C Drive.

Ok I just tried this, start, clicked on my computer and right clicked on my D drive and clicked on properties of the D drive and it froze also, so I am seeing that it is freezing when ever I go to the properties on any drive.

Are you sure it is actually freezing? Try leaving it for 10mins or so, the drive just may be REALLY slow...

If you can bring up the C+A+D panel, then you don't need to restart. You should be able to click "Task Manager" and then kill the [Not Responding] application in the "Running Programs" list.

I tried letting it go, if I go to CTRL, ALT, DELETE the program is not showing as running because I close it out, here is what I do, I go to start, click on my computer, then right click on C drive, click on properties, go to diskclean up, run disk clean up or do any function in this area, it also freezes if I click on D Drive and click on properties, close C drive close My Computer from this point the computer freezes, do CTRL, ALT, DELETE and all that shows is my internet running and outlook.

    www.memtest86.com

first check your memory. Go to that site, create a bootable floppy or CD, and boot off that. Let it run all the tests (it takes a while) .. If you have ANY errors, then you have bad memory that needs to be replaced.

It is running, it is actually the service "explorer.exe" that is running that you need to kill from the "Processes" tab instead (if explorer doesn't bring itself back up, click the "Applications" tab, then "New Task" and just type "explorer" and hit ok.

As much as I doubt it is the RAM, there is no harm in doing what Prime said.

I want to thank everyone for helping me out with, I did the memory test and all passed, I am really at a stand still here, I did try this, I booted in safe mode and everything works fine in there, I guess I will keep trying everything you shoot at me, again thank you for all the help and please keep sending the ideas. the computer still freezes as I have stated before.

Er.... how many times did you let it run? I would say at least 5 to be safe, but the fact that the lock-up error you have isn't random in any way would edge in on the fact that it isn't random enough to be a RAM issue.

Are you running the latest drivers for your motherboard?
