Cannot correct Taskbar size

My taskbar decided today that it wanted to be a bit bigger. Instead of the normal size, it is one size taller. I can grab it and move it. I can make it bigger, or I can hide it completely, but I cannot make it the regular size. It is like it skips over that increment completely.

I can restore it to regular size by hiding the Quicklaunch toolbar, but I like my Quicklaunch, and don't want to shut it off.

Interestingly enough, when I launch apps, they do not show up beside the Quicklaunch, but underneath them (see image below.) I am guessing the problem is somewhere with the Quicklaunch, but I cannot find any settings to change it.

Is there a reg or something to reset the taskbar layout?

Any help appreciated.

That's because you accidentally dragged the minimized tasks to a new bar on the Start bar.

Click and drag the series of dotted lines to the left of the minimized tasks back up next to the quicklaunch icons.

    Problem solved.

Thrax, I tried that 3 times. And after you suggested it, I tried it again. And guess what, it worked that time. It's one of those "you need someone else around to fix it" things, I guess. :) And it no, I didn't drag a minimized task...but I have a friend who is visiting for a few days and I let both him and his daughter use the comp to check their e-mail...... ;) Better activate the guest account.....

    Thanks.

    OK, try this:

Right click a blank part of taskbar.

    Click Properties.

Look and see if the silly Lock Taskbar checkbox has a check in it (i'm not on XP box right now, do not know what tab off hand)-- if so, uncheck, tell the properties dialog apply, then ok (one click each).

Then, hover mouse over top edge of taskbar, until you get an up-down arrow pointer, drag DOWN with mouse until taskbar thins out and programs running hop up next to quick launch. Personally, I like mine 2-3 rows high with autohide ON, but to each his own. :D

If that does not do it, will have to research it some, but try that first.

It is unlocked, look at the dots left of the quicklaunch.

I had already checked to see if it was locked. What I was doing wrong was trying to move the Quicklaunch dotted lines form the bottom up to the top by going left, as if they would then wrap around to the far right side of the top layer of the taskbar. That didn't work. But after Thrax's post confirmed my suspicion, I then realized that I need to just drag it up and right to get it back where I wanted, not up and left.

Try holding the pointer over the top of the START button?
This could of fixed mine or else i did something without knowing what I did.
