Spybot_CHH, Can't run Windows Update, IE problems

Hi, First, thanks for taking the time to help all of us folks out.

I am having problems with Windows Update and with viewing pages with many types of downloads, Often, I just see a blank screen on IE unless it is a simple page. For most things except Windows update and downloads, I can use Firefox. I did have Norton Installed, but it wasn't finding anything. Someone Suggested Spyware Doctor from PCTools. It found a few things but nothing really changed. A friend suggested AVG and and spybot SD. I ran AVG which identified a bunch of tracking cookies and three files, with the Virus Worm SPYBOT_CHH identified.

They were related to FlameFeaderfree software, which I research and it it a voice reader am a special ed teacher, so I may have downloaded it a while back, but I'm not sure if I ever ran it.

When I tried to clean this with AVG, it said one was too big for the archive, so I renamed the extension and the file name and move the file to an empty folder in documents. Then I was able to heal all of the infections.

Unfortunately, this does not seem to have helped.

Unfortunately, I forgot I probably shouldn't make any changes until I heard from you and I downloaded StopZilla and ran it. It didn't find anything and I unloaded it. I tried to uninstall it but a screen comes up that asks if I'm sure. When I click on the button it doesn't recognize that I clicked on it. I also tried enter, but that didn't work either.

First thing is that the computer has AVG and McAfee and this is not a good idea. Having multiple AntiVirus programs can conflict and cause all sorts of problems. Since you downloaded AVG, I would say to uninstall that, but it is your choice which one.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.

• then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.

Hi!

Thanks again for the help! In the mean time, I was finally able to install Windows Service Pack 1 using the offline standalone installer. During this install, it took out my trusted list, most of which don't matter, except couponsense.com which I do data entry for. I have left it out of the trusted list for now because I can't use it on I.E. anyway, I just get a blank screen that says done on the status bar at the bottom.

After I installed Windows Service Pack 1, I reinstalled Adobe Reader and Java 6 (Update 13)

I actually had uninstalled McAfee before I did the 1st HijackThis Log, but as with many uninstalls, it must have left traces. Also, I had noticed an ad on your site for StopZilla and tried that after temporarily shutting down AVG and SpyBot. It didn't help, but I can't unistall it. At the beginning of the uninstall, there is a splash screen asking you to change your mind or continue with the install. When I click on the button to continue, my mouse click is not recognized. I've tried using Tab to get there and hitting enter, but that does not work either. I have to kill it with Task Manager and the unistall just sits there until I kill it. So, for now, I exit StopZilla whenever I reboot

Hi,

I actually had uninstalled McAfee before I did the 1st HijackThis Log, but as with many uninstalls, it must have left traces.

It mostly likely left traces behind. Follow Step 2 here to download and run the MCPR.exe tool.

Also, I had noticed an ad on your site for StopZilla and tried that after temporarily shutting down AVG and SpyBot. It didn't help, but I can't unistall it. At the beginning of the uninstall, there is a splash screen asking you to change your mind or continue with the install. When I click on the button to continue, my mouse click is not recognized. I've tried using Tab to get there and hitting enter, but that does not work either. I have to kill it with Task Manager and the unistall just sits there until I kill it. So, for now, I exit StopZilla whenever I reboot

We'll try and remove StopZilla soon.

Please do the following...

1. Malwarebytes did not remove what it found as the log shows "No action taken". Could you update and rescan with Malwarebytes following the previous instructions.

2. I need to see another log from HijackThis.

• Run Hijackthis.
• Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
• Next click on Open uninstall manager.
• Press the Save list button.
• Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
• Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

3. Scroll down the list and highlight StopZilla --> make a note of the Uninstall command and paste it back here.

4. Please post the following....

Well, interesting things are already happening!

I followed the instructions to remove the traces of McAfee and my IE home page, which had been blank, worked. I tried a few others that worked as well. I didn't try Windows Update because I don't want to complicate things for you. StopZilla also started recognizing my mouse clicks. It also found some things but I decided to cancel and close it and run MalWare.

I then ran MalWare, which found additional items.

On reboot, StopZilla found additional items (it never found anything before). I dedided to wait to remove them until you had a chance to look at them. The new items found are:

Hi,

I followed the instructions to remove the traces of McAfee and my IE home page, which had been blank, worked. I tried a few others that worked as well. I didn't try Windows Update because I don't want to complicate things for you. StopZilla also started recognizing my mouse clicks.

That's great to hear!

Regarding the findings of StopZilla, do not remove what it finds. I would uninstall StopZilla and keep Malwarebytes, but it is your choice.

Apart from that, the logs look clean.
Let me know if there are anymore problems.
