AVG Resident Shield not displaying in IE

edited March 2009 in Science & Tech
This used to show the shield at the end of each search in IE on google.

I was running Mozilla Firefox at the same time and it displayed the shield there.

I have uninstalled the program and re-downloaded. I have gone in to advanced and toggled between it being on and off whilst IE was and was not running.

Please can you help as I now would not know if a site is secure or not according to AVG.

Thanks,

Dave.

Perhaps when you toggled your settings you toggled one that switched off the AVG toolbar. Go to Tools, the Advanced Settings, then Web Shield. Expand the Web Shield and make sure the boxes are ticked. I've had the same problem before and I found that one of the boxes wasn't ticked, which fixed my problem. :)

Another problem maybe that in Internet Explorer the toolbar is hidden, and that it is turned off.View the toolbar and make sure its turned on. That may also be the problem.

I did not download the toolbar. This has never caused me a problem before. There is also no option for web shield anywhere that I can find.

Ok. Hmm....maybe something dodgy happened in the installation...although you've checked the boxes and all....I've never run into this problem with AVG before. Which version of AVG is it?

Free edition 8.5. Are you a moderator on this site?

No. I've just used AVG a lot and am very familar with it. But I've never encountered this problem. Sorry I can be of no more help.:(

Please do not create a second thread for the same subject. Your problem is slightly obscure, so it may take time for people to answer you with a fix. Sit tight, and hopefully someone will be able to help you out. :)

    Thank you for being patient.

Still nothing. Is there anything I should be doing now?

What version of IE are you using?

I submit that simply upgrading to IE8 makes this AVG service unnecessary.

    IE 7

Internet Explorer 8 has a "safe site" filter exactly like AVG does, only it will probably work better as the "safe site" data is pulled from many, many times more sources.

Hell, if you uninstalled AVG, installed Avast! instead, and upgraded to IE8, the security of your computer AND the rendering accuracy of your browser would vastly improve. :)

Great, thanks. I'll probably just upgrade IE and turn off the AVG resident shield. Thanks again

I would also switch from AVG to avast! antivirus Home Edition. AVG is not as good as it used to be. I have found avast! to be far superior as well as easier to use. It works great in Win XP, Vista and Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox!

    I think I'll give it a go.
