I am using this motherboard in a Phenom X2 720 build: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131368

However, my RAM has especially tall heatsinks that conflict with my Xigmatech cpu hsf (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029) when populating the yellow slots as recommended by ASUS. I could move my RAM to the black slots and use the gear anyway but that is not preferred for overclocking. Anyone know why? Would I lose much potential by setting my RAM to the black slots further away from the cpu?

Here's my RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104098

The yellow slots are electrically closer to the CPU, and thus the signal can sustain a higher frequency because they can travel a shorter distance.

Move them to the black slots. I don't think you'll be trying for overclocks where the difference will matter.
