Win 7 disconnects network during screensaver

All right, first quirk I can't find anything on the net about -

Win 7 on my Lenovo X200, where the only driver I can't find is one for the SM Bus Controller, suffers from a mean issue where the network disconnects when the computer starts the screen saver. I walk away from the computer for five minutes and lose my VPN connection, downloads, torrents, everything. It's rather annoying.

Any ideas? There's a thread out there with a similar issue based in Vista, but that doesn't relate to me, unfortunately.

Are you sure it's the screen saver that's kicking it and that it's not going into suspend mode?

It will never go into suspend when plugged in. I expect network disconnects on sleep and hibernate, but this is different.

So tested my setup, laptop running win7 using balanced power scheme (not on battery). Using lan (not wifi) and Cisco VPN client. If my screen saver turns on, I don't get booted out of anything. However if anything causes it to go to sleep, like closing the lid for example, the network drops. Also one other issue, (didn't make a difference for me) but if you've got your system to come back from screen saver with ctrl+alt+del try turning that off and see if it still happens.

Same exact setup for me; wired, using AnyConnect. The power settings were to "turn off" the monitor after 3 minutes, but the hard drives never spin down, and the lid stays open, so no sleep or hibernate. I switch between locking the computer and just walking away, and from what I can tell, it happens with either; if I'm quick enough logging back in, I can see it reconnecting.

7 did mention wanting to update modem drivers, so I went and grabbed the latest from Lenovo again this afternoon. I'll put everything back how it was and see if it continues to happen after that.

Wonder if it's a feature of anyconnect perhaps, some kind of auto-off on idle setting somewhere. If your anyconnect is dropping that would explain why your torrents and everything else also drop.
