X700 Mobility Radeon and Win7?

I'm having a hard time finding drivers that work between my Radeon X700 Mobility and Windows 7. On ATi's web site they have drivers for Windows 7 but it seems to be for the HD line of cards. My system is working fine but I want to change some settings and cannot find the ATi Control Panel to let me force AA and stuff for games.

On another note I'd like to see about downclocking my card due to recent overheating issues, haven't yet looked into that though s it just came to mind.

Use the Vista drivers. All should be just fine.

About the overheating issues, the best way to permanently solve the problem is to open it up, remove the heatsinks to the CPU and GPU, use high purity alcohol to clean the chips, let dry, apply a small dab of arctic sliver 5 to each, and re assemble.

That silocone based gunk they tend to use on OEM laptops, it starts out fine, and acutlay holds up okay for a long while, but once it breaks down, it sort of thickens up and becomes gloppy, and obviously, it no longer transfers heat all that well. The only real solution is to clean it and apply new thermal compound.

If you never have done it, its not nearly as hard as it sounds, it just takes paitence, and finding a guide to help you disasemble. I know of some places online that provide wonderful step by step instructions for dissasembly of laptop computers. If you let me know the make and model, I will see what I can find.

Well I've cleaned it recently and it had AS5 on it already and I have none on hand so I didn't change it or anything. But I opened it up again and ran a very thin piece of metal in the grooves of the HS casing(laptop cooler after all) and apparently it was actually clogged, you cant really see inside so when I last cleaned it I only removed the visible crap. Now it runs like a champ, forgot how quiet it used to be. Though I would have cleaned it properly the first time had I a piece of thin metal like this time.

Anyways, gonna work on the driver again tomorrow. Might have gotten it fixed but winders crashed afterward and I just ain't got the desire to work more into the night luckily I have another lappy.

Windows Update shows that Windows is up to date, nothing else.

Q: "Will there be 9.3 drivers for creaky old x700-type cards in Win7? I thought 9.3 would be the one and only to support them?"

From Terry Makedon, creator of the ATI Catalyst driver package:
A: "no youre stuck with Vista drivers for that."
