/Wall <--- Head [Q8200 in 630i XFX not showing up as 4 CPUs]

edited March 2009 in Hardware
Grrrr, I can't figure this out. Q8200 in a 630i XFX (yeah, I know...) is not showing up in the task manager as 4 CPUs, same in Device Manager, system is randomly locking up (Win XP Pro SP3) yet is fine in safe mode. I'm thinking about reloading XP with SP2 with the thought that SP3, although it really shouldn't be the issue, may be the issue (I have had lots of trouble with that freakin SP since it came out...)

Any thoughts on this matter?

Spec:

Q8200
XFX 630i
2GB 6400
Nvidia Quadro 295 (CAD box)

All hardware tests fine, no infections, HJT is clear, CCleaner is clear, I just must be missing something.

Thanks all!

Your computer is using the wrong Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL). The HAL tells Windows how to detect the number of CPU cores, and how to speak with your hardware at their lowest possible levels.

You will need to reformat Windows XP to fix this issue. Slipstream SP3 into your CD before you do it, and your problems will go away.
