old mouse, new operating system

I guess this would go in the hardware. I have Hp laptop with Vista ultimate. It does not have any ps/2 ports, only usb. I got a female ps/2 male usb adaptor to plug in a ps/2 mouse. The mouse is horribly old. Only two buttons. when I plug it in, the computer does not know what it is. I am unable to install a basic mouse driver, as I dont know if there is such a file on vista or avaible for download. I am also not able to change the usb unknow device to a HID. I would love some advice on this. Thanks.

    Dunno about Vista, but I'd think you could go into the device manager (does such a thing exist in Vista?) and set it to generic 2-button mouse. Surely there's something like device manager that shows the devices installed in your system, including the unknown ones.

    If you want a more modern mouse, I will just give you a USB mouse. I have boxes of them.

    Of course the device manager exists. On topic, I too have several spare mice. If ol' Prime can't hook you up, IC probably has about 8,000 more to pass on to you.
