Dual Monitors but seperate display

edited April 2009 in Science & Tech
I have the GF 8800gt with two dvi ports. Right now I have a wide screen and I just got back my old "20. I want to keep my current desktop the way it is, then have an extra blank one on my old 20" so I can drag things over. It used to be easy to do but now I cant find that option. Can someone point me to the right direction?

Go in to Display Settings (I'm on Vista so I can't remember if it's named the same in XP), select the second monitor and check "Extend the desktop on to this monitor" and hit "Ok".

ill try and remember how to do this, since im not home right now. i have an nvidia card, and i do believe that i go into : right click on desktop / properties/ desktop / click on the advanced button / enable multiple desktops...........then you have to go into the main menu for your graphics card and select dual displays (or something like that). i think thats how you do it. hope it helps

I just set mine up. All I had to do was right click on the desk top, then select properties, this will open display properties. Click the settings tab. the lower left hand corner youll see two boxes. Use this device as my primary monitor and extend my windows desktop onto this monitor check both boxes and set up the resolution as you need.
