Can't delete in Outlook Express: the "x" has vanished!

edited April 2009 in Science & Tech
I've seen another thread on here about being unable to delete mail (and I hope I'm posting this thread in the correct place...if not, I apologize), but my problem seems different as there's no "x" button to delete with anymore! Seriously, I turned on the computer today, and my mail looks normal, I think, but there's no "delete/x" button to click. Help!
Thanks!

    Hi Megan,

    First Welcome To Icrontic :)

If just the Delete button is gone, try this. Go into your Outlook Express, Click the View menu at the top and click Layout. Make sure "Toolbar" is checked. If not, Check it. Click the Customize Toolbar button. Scroll the right side of this new window. Presumably Delete button is not here. Find it on the left and click it to highlight it. Click the Add-> button between the two lists. Delete should now show on the right. Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to position the Delete button in the list where it was before (usually between Print and a Separator). Click Close then OK. You should have your Delete button.

Also, just because the button is gone doesnt mean you should not be able to delete mail. You should still be able to delete mail with the Delete key on your keyboard or by right clicking a message and selecting Delete.

    Hope that helps!

    -Bobby
