Problem installing Windows 7 - BSOD at end of installation

edited January 2011 in Science & Tech
Hi guys. I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my desktop. It does fine until the very end where it's completing the installation. I get a BSOD right at the end.
I can't boot into safemode because it says that it needs to complete installation and it can't do it from safemode.
I've tried reinstalling at least 3 more times.

I researched it heavily and it doesn't seem like a very common problem, but it appears to be known as a TDR/atikmdag.sys problem.
Apparently it's caused by Windows trying to load ATI drivers, but the ****s it up somehow.
Apparently this issue originally surfaced in Vista, but was fixed with some msconfig fix.
The only solution I've found is to install Vista, apply the fix, then upgrade to 7, but I don't have a copy of Vista and can't really afford one.

Specs:
Dual Core AMD Opteron 1800MHz
Radeon 850XT PE
2048MB ram
WD Raptor HDD
(default bios settings)

    Well, damn.
Firstly, no onboard video, so your nce little idea is out. Secondly, how could you possibly think to respond in such an old thread? How did you even FIND it?

Still, thank your for your attempt to help, since no one else ever did.

    Hello,
I tried to install windows xp professional on my acer system. I made my first bootable device as cd rom and the second as HDD. The system boots from the cd and shows that setup is loading the files. And immediately after that a blue screen pops up and says a message. I'm not able to move further. the message states something like this setup could not continue if this is the first time...........chect for viruses on ur computer......run chkdsk-f....and so on....
So please somebody help me out in solving out this issue. How can I install windows. Is it possible. I am waiting for ur reply.....
    Thanks a lot in advance.

sounds fishy, are you running the installation from windows or actually booting the cd?
There should be a message like "Press any key to continue.." or some shit to get it to start the installer.
