the amd64 is out now and microsoft is waiting to release the 64-bit for xp and server 2003 is 64 bit and longhorn is rumored to be 64-bit. When microsoft makes the move is intel gonna support it? How is this affect the new cpu's and will the older 32-bit cpu's handle 64-bit operating systems.

WindowsXP for 64 Bit Extended is going to be a parallel product line to the existing 32 bit WindowsXP. Longhorn will run presumably in a more efficient configuration, providing optimized support for X86-64 and Intel's 32bit extensions (And whatever else Intel decides is new and fun before Longhorn's 2005 release) right out of the box.
