I recently had to reload my Windows XP. Now, I dont have the drivers that I need to run my ethernet card. Where can I get drivers, AT NO CHARGE? I tried the website from the computer company, but they were no help. every place I go to, it seems that I get a prompt to download DriverDoctor! What the HELL! Are they takin over the internet? LOL

Anyway, could anyone help me out? Thanks.

:)

Let's start with one thing: All the drivers you need are definitely free. Don't EVER pay for drivers.

What kind of computer do you have?

Yeah, would really help to have a better idea what drivers we're looking for. Probably 90% of ethernet adapters are built on one of three or four different chipsets, and most times, some generic drivers will get you going.

Google "SIW" - download that to a flash drive or burn it to a CD, then run it on the machine in question... it'll tell you just about everything you need to know about the machine's innards.

We need a model number. And, yes, you really need to burn a disc.

Yes, model number matters too... if it's onboard LAN, the drivers needed will depend on the chipset used; the chipset used will depend on the specific motherboard used. eMachines used a number of different motherboards, so... yeah. If it's a separate network card, then you get even more potential variation.

A COMPLETE model number of the machine is needed to be of any use here, not just a "model name".

But no, you don't NEED to burn a disc... you just need to get that utility onto the computer somehow. Since you don't have network working on it, you'll have to download it on another machine, and then put it on something to transfer it to the one you're working on... whether that be a CD, or a flash drive, or whatever, doesn't matter.

Oh, and silly question: did you actually check eMachines' website? http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html - looks like they have drivers for just about everything they ever made.

As far as I know DriverGuide is free, view a "series of ads" or create a free account.

    Wow, okay, that's pretty messed-up.

Yet another reason I eschew name-brand machines and get all mine custom-built at my usual computer store.
