Toshiba Laptop Reformat Question

I just got my hands on a laptop, And the windows on it is hoosed. I dont got the recovery disk or anythin for it.

When I start it it says In touch with toshiba. then it blanks out and says i have a corrupt file and then asked for the disk which i dont have. i tried the ESC - f1 thing, but it doesnt work just puts me back in the Corrupt file stage? any sujestions.

    What version of windows does it use? Is it capable of booting from the CD? If so, put in a Windows install bootable CD (preferably XP) and run the format/install from there.

    You may need to change the CD drive above the hard drive in the Boot Order section of the laptops BIOS.

    he has XP on it. the problem is, i Cant get bios to run, Once i get into bios im good to go, I can do all the rest, Im just stumped.

    All i got is my WinXP Corprate Cd im gonna use on it.

    You might have to hit the F2 button to get into bios on bootup. That's how my Dell lappy gets into the bios settings.

    Umm, no offense, but if this laptop was obtained legitimately, you should have the original system CD with it. That contains a custom Windows XP install with the drivers needed for your unit.

    If you do not have that CD with the laptop, I would question whomever you "got your hands on it" from as to how they got their hands on it.

    Having had a Toshiba laptop stolen a few months ago (my system disk is in my desk drawer) I would be suspicious of any laptop obtained without a system CD.

    its not stolen, The person "I got my hands on it" from was my brother and i was with him when he bought it. sooo if i had the cd i would have used it. however he isnt as organized as you.lol he tends to lose everything just like me...i cant help it im human...=\
