Anyone buying it??? already know a few friends who are, wondering who is around here :P I will most likely be buying it within the next week. For those who don't know, its suppose to be based on the idea and gameplay of dota.
I think this one suffered from mass piracy due to a lack of a demo release. No one likes to buy a game without trying it first anymore, and if the publisher doesn't release a demo, then how are people to try it out other than through pirating.
Hopefully those who decide they like it will go back and pay for it.
On another note: I think a big mistake was made here in not putting this game on Steam. Steam could have easily handled the distribution and the game servers. Instead they created a new download platform to compete with steam, and it only has this one game on it. dumb.
Also the multi-player networking is only peer to peer. I don't care how cool the game is, peer to peer multi-player is simply not acceptable anymore.
That is pretty bad, but at the same time it is day 1. Before games are fully release theres often illegal copies around, and not everyone buys their games the first day it comes out. Because of this, its expected that overall there will a much higher proportion of pirates to purchasers on day 1.
Yeah, this game looks like it got hit hard by the pirates, what a shame since Stardock basically said f' that we'll show the world that gamers are good people.
I haven't had a chance to pick it up but it's high on my list next paycheck.
Steam would have been a better way to go but Impulse has worked really well with Sins.
In this case though it's important to talk about Stardock, because Stardock is one of those admiral developers/publishers who deserve our money because they don't put lame DRM on their products, and trust in the greatness of their product to make us part with our money. There are games which are so good they make you want to buy them even if you could technically have them for free.
Demigod is one of those games. I wouldn't worry too much about piracy here; Stardock's business model works and it's not like other games aren't hit as hard by piracy either.
Yeah, but Sins wasn't a Stardock game either, was Galactic Civ? It does sound like they're intimate as the publishers though, at least they were on Sins.
I agree, I do want to support the platform and the studios willing to go with their model.
Picked it up, it's downloading, probably won't get to it until the weekend though.
I was listening to a strategy game podcast on my commute home tonight and Three Moves Ahead had the president of Stardock on to talk about Demigod (among other things) and I thought you guys might find it really interesting. He talks a bit about the piracy, a lot about the network problems and what they're working on next.
I had a lot of hope for this game. Tried it out and it just wasn't my cup of tea, although i really didn't get a chance to try the multiplayer. Have they fixed those issues yet?

Multiplayer is about the same as single, yet the players are a bit smarter
