Polonia
I am mostly Polish. To me, Polish food is not ethnic food, it is just food.
As you can imagine, growing up in a specific ethnic background turns you into a very picky connoisseur of that cuisine. Nothing is quite as good as Grandma made, or Aunt Martha, or mom.
People in my family circle each had a specialty. Aunt Martha's golobki was famous. My grandma's beet soup was incredible. Mrs. Kaczoruk and Mrs. Jablonski the neighbors both had their signature dishes. My mom makes the best cucumber salad in the world.
So, take a good Polish boy and try to tell him that there is a Polish restaurant in town that is worth going to. Not gonna happen.
There is a giant Polish population here in the Metro D area; there is a city called Hamtramck which is referred to as "Little Poland". There are dozens of Polish restaurants in Hamtramck, all of them good, but not as good as home cooking.
Then there is Polonia. Polonia is the only Polish restaurant I've been to that tastes like home cooking.
I can't think of a more solid recommendation than this; my Grandma would have loved this place.
