Upgrading ram on HP Pavillion 763n

Hi,

I'm going to do a little ram upgrade on my parents computer. Its 7 years old and running XP. Its just getting too slow now :(

The specs are:

P4 at 2.53ghz
512mb ddr pc2100 (266mhz)
HP mainboard? (Intel I845G chipset)
Radeon 9000 64mb graphics card
80GB IDE harddrive

So as you can see its a little old, I was thinking a ram upgrade would add a nice boost and make it much nicer to use for surfing the web etc.

For HP computers could I simply buy http://www.ebuyer.com/product/38992
and run it with the existing 512mb for a total of 1.5GB and would that add a decent speed boost?

Basically, will that work, easily, just slot it in and it boots, no BIOS updates or anything like that.

Thanks.

Make sure the original specs say it can use 2GB of ram (if it has 2 slots) or 4GB of ram (if it has 4 slots).

Otherwise buying a 1GB stick will be a waste if it can only recognize 1/2 of it.

Should be fine then.. if it is not Dual Channel. If the board is DC capable then I recommend ram module sizes be the same.

Nope no dual channel capabilities. Ok thanks, I'll order some :)

    Cheers
