Help with Linking 2 comps for file transfer please.

i want to know if i can connect 2 computers using the onboard ethernet to transfer files from xp home to xp pro. if not please explain the best easiest possible way to connect them and im not worried about speed.

    Yes you can connect them, but you need what is called a "crossover" Ethernet cable if you are going to go PC to PC with no switch or hub in between.

    Then just set a static IP for both units.

    How do i set up a static IP for them both? If you can provide a link to a walkthrough or have time to exlain it i would appreciate it.

    thanks alot now one final question how fast will the x-fer be between the 2? mainly i just need to x-fer World of Warcraft and Guild Wars and all the patches for them

    It will transfer at 75-90 megabytes per second.

    ??? Only if they are gigabit Nics.

    9 - 10 MB/s over 100MBit

    ok i checked out the site you linked and did all her steps now i connect for a sec then get 'a network cable is unplugged" what could cause this??

    Are you using a crossover cable?
