Duck Tape Engineering Challenge - EPIC 2009
The Duct Tape Engineering challenge of past years is now the Duck Tape Engineering Challenge. It's nice that we don't need to change the acronym.
This year's contest is sponsored by Henkle Consumer Adhesives, the makers of Duck Tape, but otherwise it will work similarly to past years. If you're not familiar with the DTEC, here's how it will go down:
At 2:30pm on Saturday, right after the group photo shoot, Rob "GHoosdum" Updegrove and I will stand before the mass of attendees, and present this year's unique challenge. Teams of 3-4 will be given 1.5 hours to each construct their best version of this year's project using only one roll of Duck Tape. Rob and I will move from team to team, as they plan and build in each their own hidden locations, answering questions, and making sure that rules are not broken.
When the time is up, the projects will be judged against each other to see which one most successfully completed the objectives. The project will be such that it can be judged in a practical and concrete way, using measurements or tollerances.
This year, we will try to test our judging method before-hand, so to avoid repeating last year's ball-bearing fiasco. :o
We wont be letting anyone know in advance what the project is, but for reference here are the past projects:

We wont be letting anyone know in advance what the project is, but for reference here are the past projects:
- 2006: Make the bucket that holds the most water without leaking.
- 2007: Make the ramp that allows a practice golf ball to roll the furthest after first rolling in the opposite direction for at least 3 inches.
- 2008: Make the boat that holds the most weight before sinking.
