Need a new cd/dvd burner for my Laptop

I have an HP Pavillion dv9000 and the cd/dvd combo drive took a dive for the second time in two years. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to find a quality aftermarket drive for this laptop? HP's "Matshita" drives are worthless it seems. Also, how do I know if it is compatible with my notebook?

    Generally they don't make aftermarket drives they are usually brand proprietary and series proprietary as well.

    That explains why I can't seem to find one. I suppose I will try an external drive. Any suggestions there?
