A Little More Help, Katana?

Greetings Katana...

Thank you again for all your help in resolving the now-infamous CyberDefender debacle. My machine is still clean and runs pretty well, but I do have a problem left that I think reverts back to my intial "Sheur2XLC" trojan problem.

I have always had Win XP set to inform me of Windows upgrades via the system tray notification, but not automatically download them or install them. I would get the notification message, then simply click on the yellow shield icon in the tray to open the check box window and start the downloads.

Ever since the attack, however, clicking on the shield only takes me to the check-box window where you select which updates you want to download, but will not start the download when I click the link. It is as if the command to start the download either never gets generated or never makes it to Microsoft. I have had to manually go to the update site and select and download the updates from there...

Although I sometimes would curse that infernal "Updates Available" window popping up all the time, it WAS awfully convenient and sort of forced me into keeping my machine updated.

Any ideas what may be wrong? Just let me know if you want a HJT and or ERUNT posted, didn't want to take up the space if this is a known problem.

I do see alot of lag time in the system , sometimes many seconds going by before clicks are processed. Everything scans clean though and I keep background programs and startups to an absolute minimum....

I see that Katana hasn't answered yet, I can try to help you and see what I can do if you can provide me with your HJT log.

    Thank you, Korppu...

Here's the HJT log. It only seems that the download just never starts...the list of available updates is always current. The trojan I had, had disabled all of my Spyware and AV stuff - a possibility it also disabled the download capability from MS...I'm out of my league with this one...

    Korppu...

I just noticed something. This last entry (above) is apparently a WMP Sharing device. This computer was definitely hacked at one point and was subject to remote control. Is this device a left-over? I have never intentionally activated any sharing capabilities such as this. Is this service automatically installed when XP is installed?

Unfortunately I don't know what I'm looking at when I read these logs, but it worries me to see this entry.

    Thank you,

    Slider

Have you checked your Security Center to see if the options are right there? The virus might have changed them.

I'll look more into the log tomorrow.
