Please help! Internet Explorer won't open

My internet explorer will not open. It looks like it tries to open, but then nothing happens. I'm using Firefox, which I like, but sometimes, it won't open either. I've had to uninstall and reinstall Firefox before. This computer is slow, which it's a couple of years old, and it freezes up. I'm attaching a HJT log.

    Your hijack log is clean.

    Go into Control Panel>Internet Options
    Under the general tab delete all your offline files and cookies and make sure that the settings for storing offline files is no bigger then 50mb (the default for windows is usually 1gb).

    Next do a scandisk with the fix option by going into windows explorer and right clicking on your C: Drive. Go into properties and then the tools section. To run the scan it will tell you to reboot your computer, do so and let it run. Can take awhile.

    After it comes back from the scandisk do a defrag and reboot again.

    Next test our your browsers. I also suggest you get a program called ccleaner you can get it Here Run this and let if fix your registry settings. You usually have to run it several times to fix them all.

    See how things go from there.

    I've run the scandisk and defraggment. I already had Ccleaner installed, so I ran it also. Internet Explorer is still not opening. When I click on the icon, it flashes up and then disappears instantly. Firefox is working well so far, but have had trouble with it in the past. If it stops working, how do I get on the internet without it and Internet Explorer? Also, when I reboot the computer, it boots up slowly, and it sounds like it's constantly loading something. It usually takes about 5 minutes. Is that normal?

    It sounds like your hard drive may be dying. Can someone give him dft and seatools links? I'm on mah phone.

    Evaluate the condition of your hard drive by testing it with Drive Fitness Test. Should DFT fail to correctly function on your system, perform a long scan with SeaTools.

    Download the CD image. Burn it to a disk. The resulting disk will be a bootable CD, boot from it and run a disk test on your hard drive.

    I am on my laptop as I can not connect to the internet on my desktop. Internet Explorer will not open, and now, Mozilla will not open. I had asked several times how to fix the Internet Explorer problem, and no solution was given. How am I to connect to the internet since both browsers will not open? I can't do the Drive Fitness Test on the desktop if I can't connect.

    It looks like you may have some corruption in your profile.
    I suggest creating a new profile to see if it resolves the issue.
