Firefox Bookmarks

edited July 2009 in Science & Tech
I had to redo my computer and saved the Firefox bookmarks. This file is a type "json". I do not know how to restore or include this file into the new Firefox environment and be able to access the bookmarks. Can anyone help?

Firefox bookmarks should normally be a .html formated file. How did you save your bookmarks?

    Haycl,

I have attached an image which shows the location of the bookmark file in Firefox 3.0.11. As you can see it is an HTML file stored in the Firefox user profile folder stored in your Windows user profile.

I've never used that built-in-firefox backup before, neat. Never paid attention to it's format.

Shwaip nailed it. In your new firefox hit CTRL+SHIFT+B and then import your .json file.

Shwaip and kryyst thank you so much. It works and I am up and running!! I had to save the bookmarks in a hurry and did not really know where to find the correct one to save. Where exactly I found the json file I don't know. But all is well that ends well!! Thank you.

In the latest version of firefox, they started making the "backup bookmarks' function backup to a .json file. Before that it used .html.

In the future, I highly recommend taking a look at the Xmarks plugin to sync/save your bookmarks. Best plugin ever. I never worry about saving my bookmarks anymore.

Xmarks is FTW....especially when you need to find that favorite porn site on your wife's laptop on the road...

Agree, Xmarks rocks! Especially love that I can sync my bookmarks between Firefox and Safari on the Mac and I even threw it on IE too though I haven't actually used it once.
