Internet is SO SLOW for 10mb

edited July 2009 in Science & Tech
Hi,
I'm having troubles with my internet, i have a 10 mb internet with virgin but it does not feel as quick as it should.
I used speedtest (http://www.speedtest.net/) and tested it with the London server.

I got:
download - 1.28mb/s
upload - 0.05mb/s
ping - 41ms

can anyone explain why its so slow?

thanks in advance

Can you post a picture of your speedtest results? I want to verify something.

Virgin Media does have one of the most strict bandwidth throttling policies in the UK. We wrote about it in February.

Do you think this may be what's happening?

sorry but i don't really understand what that means, Throttling?
does this mean i get my 10mb during the day then at night it goes down to 2.5mb

Yes, it means they'll limit your speed so you don't get the full advertised amount.

You may not have gone over your bandwidth caps.

so if i play say an hour of cod 5,
does this then mean its gone up from 0 to a certain amount?
then say i use the internet it will go up again until i stop,
but if i go over 10mb it goes down to 2.5mb if that,
but if i dont go over 10mb the i get to keep the 10mb? or does it just go down but not as much?
