I was meandering through Newegg last night looking at the AMD Phenom II X4 955 and began wanting it badly. I read reviews about the I7 and how it was much better, yet I had such a strong desire to have another AMD rig(I now have an Intel). I still can't stop thinking about it. Well, I just needed to get that off my chest.

In terms of bang for your buck, an overclocked Phenom II is one of the highest-performing gaming rigs per dollar spent. Most phenom II's can achieve a CPU score equal or close to an entry level i7 with a decent overclock, and you're only spending half as much on it.

For maximum performance, you can't beat the core i7. Pure brute force power is what you get with those chips - plus they're fairly overclockable, too.
