Fixing (some) ianvstor.sys bluescreens

My Lenovo T61p was constantly freezing for about a second with the hard drive light stuck on for about a week, and then yesterday it started BSODing constantly in windows AND safe mode when I was trying to diagnose. Searching the internet led to some ideas, but no decisive reasons or solutions.

From the googling I did, I thought it might be related to the Intel Turbomem that I had gotten with the computer. I wanted to disable it, however I couldn't stay in windows for long enough to do so.

1) I opened up the laptop, removed the intel turbomem chip. It looks like this:

attachment.php?attachmentid=27327&stc=1&d=1248286959

2) I booted to windows, uninstalled the turbomem software.

3) I put the turbomem chip back in.

4) Re-installed the turbomem software/driver and re-enabled windows readyboost.

It looks like this solved the problem. Hopefully anyone else who has this problem can fix it this way.

I am sure this will help some people since turbo memory has been more trouble than advantage to me in the Vostro 1500 I have. I remember such blue screens I had to deal with.

How about kicking that little chip out the window. Would that fix the problem too :)

    Yeah, probably :)

You can open up your laptop and replace it with one of the mini pci-express half-length ssds if you want.
