Windows XP PRO Reeboot Problems

edited July 2009 in Science & Tech
I have Windows XP PRO but my computer was built with it installed so I don't have a CD to reformat my computer with. I got up this morning and my mouse was frozen. All of a sudden it restarted on me. I cannot get into Safe Mode. If I press load default settings it doesnt do anything it just restarts and restarts over and over. I hit F8 and it gives me a list of options but not one of them is Safe Mode.
Its telling me on reboot that "secondary Master is not detected" Although I don't even have a secondary master.

It won't let me go into Safe Mode it even reboots when I try to go into that.

I can't read all that it says when I go to advanced options. I really need this computer to work. I'm using a family member's computer to type this. My other computer is completely not functional. It keeps rebooting itself. :mad2:

If I hit "Choose last known configuration" and it restarts itself again.

It keeps telling me something is detected and some blue screen and it doesn't stay long enough for me to see it.
I don't know. I need help. I got a feeling its some type of virus in it and I really cant do anything.

Get a copy of Memtest86. Burn it to a cd and then reboot your computer with it in the drive. It will test your RAM to make sure you have no issues. Alternatively (and I think it's the better choice) get a copy of Ubuntu It's a linux system that will run off the CD and not install anything on your computer. It's also got memtest86 as one of it's boot options. Assuming Memtest doesn't find any errors you can boot into Linux and see if other things are working for future testing.

If you don't have any RAM errors then you likely have some file damage that resulted from repeated crashes during boot up. Unfortunately you really need a copy of Windows to fix most of them.

If your system came with XP installed they legally had to give you some copy of that XP. It could have either been an XP disc, it could have been recovery cd's or they may have installed a recovery partition on the drive. Is this a brand name computer?
