MTG: Casual Formats

I was browsing through some casual formats and found a real gem: Reject Rare draft.

You create 15-card "packs" of random rare cards you don't use and proceed as you normally would for a booster draft. So with a stack of 90 rare cards and some land, you have a fun off-the-wall format that doesn't require that either of you have the latest-and-greatest.

As I get back into Magic, I'm definitely looking at ways of enjoying the game play on a budget (rather than my former collector / booster-box-a-set ways) and this looks like a great way to do that.

I now know TWO people with ancient MtG cards the might be in the market to sell cheap. This could help?

I long ago learned that this market includes everyone with old Magic cards... and they very rarely follow through or offer a bargain :D

I think I could easily go through my collection and come up with 45 rares that I don't need/use (since I only play drafts now, I have a lot of unused cards).

I think this would be a neat format to try.

Just stumbled across Planechaser, which is a re-working of an older idea for multi-player games. The gist of it is that every game there are one or more global, fundamental rules changes. For instance, the sample card on that page has a global effect that makes all creatures able to tap for two green mana.

I often end up in a 3-player game on Sundays here and think this would be a great way to soften the tone of the game - it's very difficult to play a 3-player game with a deck meant for competitive 2-player play.
