Nightwolf needs a laptop

Good evening everyone.

I am in need of a laptop, I'm getting stationed in GA soon and will not be lugging my desktop around with me (I also deploy fairly soon). It will be used mainly for media, watching movies, listening to music, surfing the web, editing photos; but also occasionally for playing CSS. My price range is around $700 and would prefer to buy it at bestbuy though I know everyone will disagree.

What do you recommend?

Ouchy... Best Buy. Prepare for a raping. Seriously, Best Buy will add 15%+ to the price tag so a $700 is really a $500 bought from Newegg. Newegg ships quick and for cheap. Think about it.

So... what you are looking for is a general Web/ Office laptop with low to medium gaming. As always I strongly recomend against Sony and Toshiba. Why... because of the failure rate and cost to repair. I know there are folks that will, no doubtingly, state that their Sony or Toshiba has been rock solid for years without any problems. I have 50-60 laptops a year, at least 250 in the last 5 years. Less than 10% of them are Sony or Toshiba but I see them fail 3 or 4 times the rate of Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, Asus...

However, Best Buy can sell you a smoking Sony or Toshiba.

This HP seems to fit what I need. The closest thing I could find on newegg was the dv4-1430us model and its $100 more than bestbuy.

The Lenovo that you recommended seems like it would suit me well. I don't know anything about these laptops, but I assume because you recommended it they're reliable machines.

If you're going to be doing any sort of gaming on it, I'd suggest avoiding the Intel graphics chips which both yours and Q's laptops have. I'd suggest something more along this line.

Still in your price range but with a Mobility Radeon. Alternately, I own this laptop personally and quite like it.

This Acer has some solid specs as well

    Bumpidy bump bump

I decided to wait until I had a little more to splurge on a machine seeing how I'm probably gonna want to start gaming again once I deploy. So now I've got a price range around $1300 + or - a few hundred depending on what ya'll recommend.

I realize this thread is about 2 months old. anyway, the 1st 2 laptops are deactivated by Newegg, meaning they're not being sold.

Acer is the only other laptop available for sale tho. Decent one

dunno if you might be interested in this, the MSI-GT729 at Xotic PC, it is a successor unit to MSI GT725. It uses P8700 cpu. They are taking pre-orders tho. it won't be out until mid-to late september.

    http://www.xoticpc.com/gt729-wsxga-order-p-2633.html?wconfigure=yes

I just put an order in for it (finally!) it retails at $1299. the add ons undoubtedly push it up some. I've added in a laptop cooler ($69) & 64 bit vista+win7 upgrade ($142), so this brings my purchase total to $1510 + $37 shipping for a total $1547. I decided not to get blue ray as they are $142 for (2x) & $359 (4x).

if you don't to wait, frosty computers seems to have some MSI GT725 in stock

    another one from circuits outlet
    http://www.circuitsoutlet.com/17-WSXGA-DROP-SHIP-ONLY-p10627.html

    both uses P8600 cpu.
