Consumers have always had a choice. I run Firefox. No problem. VLC for media viewing. No problem. If downloading and installing is too much trouble...

MS should make the use of the "ballot" contingent upon dropping of all fines.

    Consumers haven't always the choice...

If I partially agreed with the EU court about anti-trust or anti-competitive arguments, the final resolution which consist to ask MS to release a Windows N version is at least a mistake, and clearly a stupidity!

Newbies customers need a browser, a media player, a client mail and a messaging tool. That's perfectly understandable.

But! But, but, but, the EU court did have a fantastic leverage with which it could have imposed MS to offer to the customers a true and complete DE-INSTALLATION option of these crapy tools that are IE, Outlook, Media player and Messenger. None speaking about the fact that these "products" are essentially made for capturing customers, give them (bad) habbits, and absolutely not to let them with a choice...

As an IT manager, I could tell and debate during days about the side's effect of masking Media Player and IE, which (if not totally removed) keep appearing and re-appearing even if they're not set as the "default" apps...

If the candid end user can never completely remove these hardly integrated tools (without being the IT guy level #1456), you haven't the choice when you're buying Windows. And most offen, you dont't clearly "buy" Windows, you're buying a computer! Without the clear choice of another system...

What newbie has read the infamous MS CLUF? How many understand and said no to the CLUF, in order to install another system to their brand new computer? How many come back to the shop and ask for a partial refund since they have said no the cluf?!! None speaking about the forced bundling of MS Office, Norton, etc. For which many newbies will click on the "Yes I will purchase" button when they are asked for, just because it's "convenient"... Convenient for who?!?

So, what choice?! Until you finally learn and discover you DID have the choice, MS has make money from computer's manufacturers, just through the OEM pre-installation process... One day, I will discover how much Samsung (and others) has paid MS to have the right to put a sticker "Vista compatible" on their LCD... And who actually pays the price for this 22 inch "sticker"?! Mmh? Doesn't this merit another assignment from ANY court around the world for mass abusing!!!
