Video editing programs from 1996-1998?

I was looking through some episodes of a webshow that was produced from 1998-2000 that I've kept ever since then. The original website told what programs were used to make the video, but since the site is gone now, I don't have any way to find out anymore.

I was curious as to what digital video editing programs were available in those years. Windows Movie Maker came out with Windows XP in late 2001 and that's all I ever used, though I've heard of other fancier expensive programs.

well I for one would NOT want to use old ass apps to edit video. movie maker will work fine for the inexperienced, but better apps are adobe premiere or sony vegas, which cost $$$.

Virtualdub is a free app, but it isnt meant for full fledged editing, more of adding onto the footage.

There are a ton of other free apps for doing simple stuff but I havnt used them since I've been using premiere. When I remember them I'll post.
Mediacoder is a nice app for transcoding formats
