on the 'Egg today there are three options.

COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-500-PCAR-A3 500W Power Supply - $40

Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W Power Supply -
$55 - $22 rebate

OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP 500W Power Supply w/ 135mm fan -
$59 - $25 rebate

I am looking for quiet. I would go smaller, but it is hard to find efficent PSUs that are small that don't cost a fortune.
tks ed

I'm very happy with my ModXStream.

I've got an Antec Quattro 1000W modular atm, and I'm very pleased with it. The power output is very consistent and it makes very little noise.

    Follow up
Took power supply out of machine with 'issues'. It turned out to be an Antec.
Put no-name (but high efficiency) supply from other machine in and it worked fine.

Then put the Antec into my secondary machine. No boot. left power cord plugged in.
While I was on on 'Egg buying the OCZ the Antec (with no load on it) started spitting sparks and smoke. I am glad that I was sitting right next to it.

Sounds like you've got things proper sorted. Did your second machine survive without damage?
