Your post in the the thread is really cool. but probably not what you were going for, hence the fail.

It looks like the moon is super bright compared to everything else. I think if you managed to get everything else bright enough, the moon would look really big and wash out a large circle around it. One thing you might try is getting the branches in the way of the moon so they block a little bit of the light from the moon.

thanks, shwaip! thats a great suggestion, I definitely want to play more but you will have to come protect me from the scary rattlers that come out at night here!

also, good idea. you're cool :)

Or you could do an HDR shot to bring up the luma in the dark spots. :)

oh cool! Does that mean i need to sit there for 3 really long exposure shots? hmmm... what could i do while i wait? Thats 180s at this shutter speed. I bet I could pound at least 3 beers in that time.

You take 3 (or more shots) each with different exposure lengths. One that's shorter - this will make the really bright parts in the 'normal' length shot darker. One that's 'normal' - this will look just like the pic you took. One that's longer - this will make those dark areas be brighter. You need to combine them afterward with software.

I think my photography weakness might be that I have no idea what any of you are talking about. :D

Marushka - can't really fail too hard when you get something neat out of it anyway. Good shot. :)

Shwaip - cop out. Come on, give us summat. :D

Prime - Good structure, good lighting. Nice job with the multiple levels of subject.

Nemi - That's some kind of fail.

Snark, you fail the topic of the day. Maybe if you had 3 triple 1's, i'd forgive it.

    buuuuuuurn.

prime: The large version as is won't fit on my screen. But it makes it kind of interactive and adds to the experience of "holy crap, thats a lot of bills."

snarkasm: great photo. did you plant the darts there? did you earn that epic win? :)

As a matter of fact, for photographic purposes, that shot was staged. :/

I have achieved such win, but not quite so neatly clustered.
