I have a SATA drive that is recognized in BIOS but not in Windows XP. It was working for years but now has dropped out of sight. I ran diskmgmt.msc and it doesn't show there either.

Suggestions?

    1. Power down, unplug the SATA cable.
    2. Boot the PC into Windows.
    3. Power down the PC again.
    4. Plug in the SATA cable.
    5. Boot the PC back into Windows.

If that fails, add "remove all IDE/ATAPI Controllers from device manager" between steps 2 and 3.

First try didnt work. How do I remove the IDE/ATAPI Controllers?

Here's another tidbit. When the missing drive is plugged in, upon bootup an "express gate" message appears on the screen for a minute or so. Then it takes a long while to boot....

Another thing, the drive is not showing up in BIOS. Please say Im not screwed?

Update: It is an IDE drive, not a SATA. It is getting power to the unit, and I've tried both IDE connectors. Ug.

Should I try moving the jumper?
