hard drive transfer

sorry a real novice here but can anyone tell me how to get the data out of a desktop hard drive (no monitor etc and won't boot)to another desktop

    You'll need to pull the drive out of the case, and either put it in an external enclosure (search newegg for external hard drive enclosure) or just install it as a slave in your other computer.

    Is the hard drive IDE or SATA? In other words, does the cable coming out of it look flat or really thick and does the drive have a ton of pins along the back, or is it just a small cable with no pins?
